Malerei 

Die scottische Malerei machte sich erstmalig im 18 Jahrhundert einen Namen ; durch die Poträtisten Allan Ramsay (1713-84) und vor allem durch Sir Henry Raeburn(1756-1823), Freund und Schüler von Sir Joshua Reynolds. Seine Bilder hängen hauptsächlich in den Galerien von Edinburg. In der nach 1750 beliebten Landschaftsmalerei sind zu nennen Horatio Macullock(1805-67), William McTaggert (1855-1910),Alexander Nasmyth (1787-1840) und Sir David Wilkie (1785-1841).

  • Seit dem 1. Juli ist eine Retrospektive des amerikanischen Fotografen Herb Ritts im NRW-Forum zu sehen. Bis zum 7. Oktober können die Fotografien mit bekannten Stars betrachtet werden.

    Die Basis der Sammlung bildete die Klee-Sammlung. Heute sind dort neben Klee Meisterwerke des 20. Jahrhunderts zu sehen vom Expressionismus bis zur Pop Art. Daneben finden wechselnde Ausstellungen statt.

    Wechselnde Ausstellungen, vorwiegend der Moderne, präsentiert die Kunsthalle, die international bekannt ist.

    Das Kunstmuseum, demnächst Teil des neuen Kunstkomplexes "museum kunst palast" zeigt Kunst des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts. Des Weiteren beherbergt es eine grafische Sammlung, einer der größten in Deutschland, und eine Glassammlung mit Exemplaren aus der Antike bis zur Gegenwart. Bis 31. August wegen Umbau geschlossen.

    Das Deutsche Keramikmuseum bietet einen Überblick über 8000 Jahre Keramikkunstgeschichte weltweit. Über 10.000 Objekte.

    NRW-Forum [http://www.nrw-forum.de]
    Das "NRW-Forum für Kultur und Wirtschaft" ist ein Stätte für verschiedene Ausstellungen, jedoch ein Ort des Austausches zwischen Kultur und Wirtschaft. Ausstellungen, News, Veranstaltungen und mehr. Jeden Freitag gibt es dort um 19:00 Uhr "Happy Hour" die WDR-TV-Talk-Show.

    Zeitgenössische Kunst von Düsseldorfer und international bekannten Künstlern werden im Kunstraum ausgestellt. Dort finden auch Konzerte statt. Ausstellungen, Künstler, Kataloge zum Onlinebestellen, Hinweise zu Konzerten und Performances.

    In dem Gebäude der Kunsthalle ist der 1829 gegründete Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen beheimatet. Er widmet sich der Kunstförderung und zeigt Ausstellungen.

    Der Malkasten auf dem einstigen Anwesen des Philosophen Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi ist Sitz des Künstler-Vereins, der Düsseldorfer Malerschule, die 1848 gegründet wurde. Dort finden nicht nur Ausstellungen, sondern auch Konzerte und Theaterabende statt.

    Galerien

    Neben den unterschiedlichen Museen existieren auch viele kleine und große Galerien in Düsseldorf. Die wohl bekannteste und oft porträtierte Galeristin in der Stadtgeschichte ist Johanna Ey, auch "Mutter Ey", genannt. Sie hatte einen Bäckerladen in der Altstadt und unterstützte zwischen 1910 und 1933 junge, heute berühmte Künstler.
