:::CoreanPride:::

Since Corea is just a small country constantly intimidated by its big neigbors Japan and China Corea had to fight for its right of independence and its place in the world since the beginning of Corean History. And so it has to fight for the same purpose even today.

:::Goguryo:::

Not only the Japanese try to distort Corean History, but also Chinese try to delete Corean History from the mind of the people of the world.
For example they claim that the ancient Corean Kingdom of "Goguryo" was in fact Chinese. As mentioned, Corea derives from "Goryo" which became Corea (and later Korea) in European languages.
China has once established a policy of "One China" which meant and means that they are a melting pot under the rule of the Chinese People. No matter whether the government was a "Emperor of the Heaven" or a Communist Regime the policy stayed the same for thousands of years.

:::Japanese Occupation:::

The time of Japanese Occupation lasted 35 years, beginning 1910 and ending 1945 with the surrender of the Japanese Empire. The Japanese exploited the Corean (and Japanese) people.

The Japanese Claim that they colonized Corea just for the sole purpose of "Developing" the country and to industrialize it. This version is teached in Japanese Schools even nowerdays and this led to a fierce dispute between Japan and Corea because of Japanese attempts to hide the real truth.
So, what is the truth?
In fact, the Kingdom of Choson hadn't make big efforts to reform the country and especially the society which stayed the same for hundreds of years. The ruling class of Yangban had many privileges while the common people had to suffer. But: That is nothing special and it was like that in every country you can imagine and it is even now in some countries. The only problem was that Japan had reformed 20 years prior to Corea.
When the pressure on the "Hermit Kingdom" of Corea was intensified King Kojong took all means to reform the Country. He established the Empire of Korea (Daehan Jeguk) and opened the Country to the West, especially the USA. The USA helped with great efforts to industrialize the Country. New thoughts of equality and freedom spread around the Country. Industrial production was established, telegraph lines, electricity and even a tram line through Hanyang (now: Seoul) made clear that this country is on its way to modernize.

Then the Japanese military killed the Empress of Corea to show Kojong that he should stop his reforms because Japanese were aware of the problems an industrialized Corea would bring for the plans of Colonization. So they imprisoned the Emperor in one of the palaces and installed a regime.
The Americans and other Western Countries deliberately ignored Corean complaints and then let the Coreans alone.
