Die Auferstandene
Anastacia Newkirk, so ihr vollständiger Name,
wird am 15. September 1973 in Chicago geboren
und stammt aus einer Künstlerfamilie.
Ihre Eltern, ein Sänger und eine Schauspielerin,
legen der kleinen anscheinend das Talent in die Wiege.
Angespornt durch den Background ihrer Eltern fängt sie schon recht früh an,
sich professionell für das Tanzen zu interessieren und wird
für diverse Musikvideos als Hupfdohle engagiert.
So zum Beispiel für Salt 'n' Pepas "Everybody Get Up"
und "Twist And Shout".
Aber klar ist, dass sich eine Lady, die ein Gesangsvolumen aufweist,
das man eher einer dicken, schwarzen Mama zuordnen würde,
nicht mit Background-Schubidu und gelegentlichen Tanzeinlagen
abspeisen lässt.
So versucht sie mit selbstgeschriebenen Songs
einen Plattenvertrag zu ergattern, was jedoch nicht zuletzt daran scheitert,
dass sie sich in ihrer künstlerischen Freiheit nicht einschränken lassen will.
So missachtet sie viele "gutgemeinte" Ratschläge diverser Produzenten,
die sie entweder zur neuen Hip Hop-Queen machen oder
ihren Gesangstil ändern wollen.
Gut, dass sich Anastacia nicht beirren lässt und ihren schönen
Dickkopf gegen alle Widrigkeiten durchsetzt.
So kommt es, dass sie 1998 an einem Gesangswettbewerb von MTV
("The Cult") teilnimmt und unter die letzten zehn Bewerberinnen kommt.
Die begehrte Trophäe kann sie zwar nicht einfahren,
aber am Ende hat ihre Performance so ziemlich jeden beeindruckt,
der im Business etwas zu melden hat.
Schließlich kann sie sich aussuchen, bei welchem Majorlabel
sie einen Vertrag unterschreiben will.
Alle stehen Schlange, um sich die Dienste ihrer
markanten Stimme zu sichern.
Sony bekommt den Zuschlag und 2000 ist es endlich so weit,
das Debutalbum "Not That Kind" erscheint.
Im März 2001 sackt sie dafür den "Echo" in der Kategorie
"Best International Newcomer" ein.
Das Nachfolgealbum "Freak Of Nature" bestätigt ihren Ausnahmestatus.
In der Folge platziert sie ihren Power-Soul in 10 Millionen Haushalten
und sammelt eine Unmenge an Preisen,
bevor im Januar 2003 eine schreckliche
Nachricht die Musikwelt erschüttert:
Anastacia bestätigt, dass sie an Brustkrebs erkrankt ist.
Anastacia, übrigens ein alter griechischer Name,
der ungefähr so viel bedeutet wie "die Auferstandene",
hat sich die Bedeutung ihres Namens wohl als Lebensmotto auserkoren.
Dank einer frühzeitigen Erkennung besiegt sie ihre Krankheit in
der Rekordzeit von sechs Monaten.
Von stoischer Lebensbejahung beseelt,
weiss sie über diese Zeit zu berichten: "Ich konnte nicht sprechen,
nicht denken und litt viele Qualen. Es war wirklich hart!
Dennoch sehe ich immer die positiven Seiten.
Ich muss das Leben einfach durch eine rosarote Brille sehen,
auch wenn mein Blick in den vergangenen
Monaten empfindlich getrübt wurde".
Im September 2003 spielt sie im Studio zusammen mit
Glen Ballard, Dallas Austin und Dave Stewart die ersten Songs
für ein neues Album ein. Das selbstbetitelte "Anastacia"
erscheint pünktlich zum Frühlingsbeginn 2004
und präsentiert eine gereifte Anastacia.
Mit intimen Texten, in denen sie ihre Erfahrungen mit der
Krankheit verarbeitet, und erdbetontem Soul-Rock
zeigen sich die Umgestaltungen sehr deutlich.
Anastacia ist sich der Veränderungen wohl bewusst und gespannt,
wie die Fans auf das Album reagieren werden.
"Es ist so, als ob man jemandem sein dunkelstes Geheimnis
zeigt und hofft, dass man geliebt und verstanden wird.
Wenn die Fans mich immer noch mögen,
dann weiß ich, das alles okay ist".
