Taka Hirose was the third original member of
Feeder.
Taka started playing bass at the age of 14 and has played for numerous jazz
and metal bands in Japan. He played in a band called 'Rainbow' in High
School.
Taka worked at ESP in Japan, who specialise in making
guitars.
He also worked nights in a Tokyo bar before he decided to visit London in 1992,
hoping to fulfill his ambitions of becoming a Graphic
Designer.
He responded to an advert placed by Grant and Jon in London's Loot Magazine
who were looking for a bass guitarist to join their 3-piece
band.
He met Grant at Camden Station in London, then went back to Grant's house
for a cup of tea.
Feeder was the first real band Taka had played in and he was unsure about playing.
He repeatadly told both Grant and Jon that he had reservations and that
he didn't come to London to be a
musician.
Not only does Taka play bass guitar, but he also provides back up vocals for
Grant when they play live.
Taka is renowned for his imaginative hairstyles and on-stage jumping about
and antics. His legendary "antenna" hair-style was originally designed for
a fancy dress party.
He was inspired by artists such as Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, :: pictures ::
Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.
Taka has (apparently) three pet cats too. Probably called Huey,
Dewey and Louey.
He is also married
with two children.
Jon once trapped Taka's fingers in a van door. The two of them almost ended up fighting,
at least until Grant tried to stop them, then they both turned on
him, instead.
Taka is a keen fan on
computer games and helped out during the production of Gran Turismo 3 on the PlayStation 2.
Taka once said that he was particularly looking forward to
visiting Norwich. "They're always mad there and they've got some of the best arcade
games in the country. Sega has got me through many a tour."
