Learning The Ropes Episode Guide 1. Unmasking The Masked Maniac Robert is a single father and has his hands full dealing with his children, daredevil Mark and sensitive Ellen. Mark and his friend love wrestling and often watch it in TV. And they both hate the Masked Maniac, who's said to be one of the most violent Catchers of our time. But then Mark finds in his fathers wardrobe the Masked Maniacs hood. Robert tries to talk himslef out of it but at last he has to admit that he is secretly catching to make some additional money. But: nobody's to know it, not even Ellen! Mark is disappointed. His friends in school would admire him, if they knew! But he understands how important the matter is and agrees. Only to Ellen he can't keep silent for long. The same evening he takes her to the wrestling arena. Ellen is horrified when Robert presents his catching friends. But at long last both children understand that Robert needs the money and that nobody is to know or Robert would lose his job as a teacher in Mark and Ellen's school. 2. Money Talks Once more Robert is fighting with excentric headmaster Mallory. He's playing with the thought of quitting his carreer as a teacher and make more money as a Catcher. Stadium Speaker Bertie Baxter, who has appointed himself Robert's manager, has an idea: Robert should fight as "Professor Pain", unmasked and brutal. Mark doesn't think this too bad, his friends would finally find out who's son he is! But Ellen is protesting. And if Robert is honest to himslef, it's not exactly what he wants, either. 3. Robert Faces Commitment Mark and Ellen are going to a school camp (Mark enjoys describing Ellen how huge spiders can get). Time for a romantic weekend between Robert and his admirer Carol, who's a teacher, too. But never forget neighbour Jerry! He wants to spend the weekend with his girlfriend and her cousin in Robert's house. That's bound for disaster. And as if it wasn't enough...the children return earlier than intended...! 4. Three Little Words It's carreer day in Mark's class. Every student is to find a speaker who's talking about his or her job. And most students take one of their parents. But what should Mark do? His mother is somewhere in England and his father is history teacher in his own school. Mark puts the thought off as long as possible...and all of a sudden the day's near. Because he can't think of someone else he drags the two wildest Catchers he can get hold of to the carreer day. In addition to the shock of students and teachers he also causes Robert quite some distress, as the Catcher's are by no means to let slip who his alter persona is. Mark can be sure of trouble at home. 7. Express Lane To Fame Mark has gotten an electric guitar for birthday and has now joined a band. His new big love is music and it's quite a job for Robert to keep him interested in school. And then Mark meets a Catcher colleague of Robert's, who has once been a famous guitar player. Rick even sees some talent in Mark's playing and promises to come round and play a few songs with the band. It's not done with that. Rick joins the band and they become very succesful. They even win a contest. From now on, Mark doesn't care about school anymore. All he wants to be is a rock star. And it even looks as if he could become one. But then, Rick leaves the band because he doesn't have enough time for both, catching and music. And now, the band's success comes rapidly to an end. After their next gig, Mark has to admit, perfectly embarassed, that the success of his band had had more to do with Rick than with him.
