Abstract english:FROM FREE HAND DRAWING TO ART EDUCATIONThe history of the school subject - art education (Bildnerische Erziehung) - will be complemented through newly discovered facts, as well as being demonstrated through previously neglected or unconsidered historical links so that a part of the void, respectively the obscured sections in the historical documentation of this subject can be reconsidered. The emphasis lies on the scholastic and subject specific developments during the period of Austro-fascism (1934-1938), during the Fascist period (1938-1945) as well as the first decades after the Second World War, where connections up to the present will be demonstrated. As well as internationally famous Austrian art educationalists such as Franz Cizek with his Youth Art Class, Richard Rothe, Austria's most famous art publicist and Oskar Rainer, the founder of "Musikalische Graphik", who heavily influenced the development of art education in Austria after 1945, other less well-known personalities will be considered such as Walter Waldheim, Ludwig Praehauser, Josef Ettel and Karl Lang. The application of, but also the changes to, Franz Cizek`s ideas by Ludwig Hofmann and his group, as well as the influence of didactic streams from Germany in the 60s will be analysed. The attempts of a new generation of art educationalists to overcome the restrictions of the propagated concepts of specialist institutions in order to embrace new contents will be illustrated through concrete examples. Possibilities for further subject specific developments will be indicated.
