What was new in 2003?

January

There will be a new CD release by Frank Gingeleit presumably by the end of January - The title will be „Megalopolis“ and it will carry seven tunes with a little more „conventional“ electronic music, played entirely with a keyboard based synthesizer... Check out this site every now and then!

Two German mailorder shops will carry both CDs in their catalogs. These will be Peter Seiler's Triple Music, a well recommended electronic label, and Fuenfundvierzig, THE German independent underground label. The prices will be Euro 15.00 in each cataloge.

Toward the end of the month it was  noticeable that my computer had been to the factory’s repair shop for two months altogether. As a consequence there were only one new article - a review of a solo concert of Mani Neumeier - and a delayed completion of the new CD and supply of the mentioned mailorder shops. But on the other hand, almost unplanned as I still don’t rely on computers for music productions, a new CD came into being and has been completed so far that it can already be announced for April/May.

February

Already since the late middle of January I’ve been working on this website with high pressure. What started as an „electronic info sheet“, tinkered together by simplest means at a free web space provider when Aural Innovations had offered to sell „Nightmares & Escapades“ in the U.S. at their mailorder site last October, now has turned out to be a „real“ bilingual website. The next plans are a better navigation, downloadable music samples and a shopping cart with credit card payment.

As it was announced, the new CD „Megalopolis“ was completed by the end of January and can now be ordered for sales and reviews. Aural Innovations uploaded the tune "Bad State of Mind" for their Radio Show # 69. You'll find the link on the "music samples" site.

March

March started quite busy: The tunes of the third CD „Toy Island“ are completed; the mastering, again operated by Merih Gürlek at Peter Seiler's Triple Music Studio, is almost finished (six tunes of eight). The release of „Toy Island“ is scheduled for the middle of May.

In early March the International Frankfurt Music Fair took place that for me personally brought up more questions than answeres concerning sophisticated home recording outside the field of Dance and Techno Music. The market for stand alone recorders has rather been thinned out, ever more reduced to „pocket tools“ and the „flagships“ of the respective companies, whereas Yamaha in the meantime also has taken their flagship, the AW4416, off the market. The „in between“ recording tools that allow a digital recording  together with analogous treatment seem to vanish completely.

In the beginning of March I got aware of a new review of „Nightmares & Escapades“ in Swedish (!) by „Stoner Planet“ (see the review site) - I can't read and understand it fully either, but they gave me three of five possible points - it should have been allright, so...

On this website there's a new press section where collegues can download the info texts for my CDs and the third party reviews as Word files.

"Toy Island" has been completed, the artwork is done and the date of release will be May, 19th, 2003. Rewiew copies can be ordered from now on.

Renaud Rigart of the French "Zoopa Loop" e-zine (the zine is in English) has announced the first volume of a new compilations series called "Free And Freaky" on his new Tripsound label for April. The track list is not yet definitive, but some of my music will be on it besides tunes of Census of Hallucinations, Damo Suzuki's Network, Litmus and Judge Trev, just to mention a few. Check out this site or the "Zoopa Loop" news site every now and then.

April

April started with the publication of a review written by me about the new Brainticket CD "Alchemic Universe" (a remastered release by the German Label "Fünfundvierzig"). Initially the label had asked me for a promotional text but then didn't use it as they feared that classical "Krautrock" listeners (and journalists devoted to "Krautrock") might rather be deterred by this text... "Zoopa Loop" then accepted it, and hey, Joel Vandroogenbroeck has confirmed "the excellent and precise definition of the place and tendency of our music"; therefore I assume that those who are not deterred by this review will make the right choice... (the link to this article can be found at the journalism site).

"Zoopa Loop" also published a review about my CD "Megalopolis" written by Renaud Rigart - "honi soit qui mal y pense", as they say in France, hence "Zoopa Loop" seems to develop to become one of the most important knots in the network of the international alternative music scene. Let me add for elder readers and experienced listeners of electronic music that I was really pleased by the appraisal of my originality but for reasons of fairness the "Berlin School" of electronic music should be mentioned as they played this kind of music already in the Seventies, but I have to admit that "Megalopolis" sounds a bit more modern compared to that... (the link can be found at the reviews site).

I was very pleased and surprised when I noticed that I'm mentioned  - without having done anything for it - in the "Encyclopedia of Electronic Music" operated by Artemi Pugachov in St. Petersburg, Russia - a really detailed, well investigated and almost daily updated website (you find the link at my link site).

The most important news is surely that from now on my CDs can be ordered at the Triple Music mailorder catalog, where they opened a new avant-garde section. Triple Music is an internationally acclaimed specialized distributor for electronic music and I'm very proud of this (you find the link at the order site).

The end of April rewarded me with a double review of "Megalopolis" and "Toy Island" in the latest issue of "Aural Innovation", rather analytic than a mere appraisal, that will tell attentive readers a lot about my music and what it is about. And the "Encyclopedia of Electronic Music" now goes a bit beyond a mere mentioning of my name (both links can be found at the reviews site).

May

"Aural Innovations" uploaded the tune "Talk With Your Children" from "Toy Island" for their Radio Show # 75. You'll find the link on the "music samples" site.

"Modern Dance", a Britsh e- and printed zine for reviews in the field of popular music reaching from mainstream pop to the global underground has asked me to write a new column entiteled "Our Man in Germany" as a complement for the already existing column "Our Men in America". I'm really looking forward this new project... and it's up to some of you readers to help me doing a good job! You find the link to "Modern Dance" on my links site and my postal address for submissions, if you like, on the journalism site.

As some smart person once said that no fairly reasonable text has the chance not to be published in the long run, there's also a German translation of my Brainticket review for Zoopa Loop online now (the link can be found on the German version of my journalism site).

And, of course, - as it was really quite well prepared this time, I almost didn't notice ;-)) -"Toy Island" was released in time on May 19th...

June

June so far was rather a period of transition and piecemeal work the results of which should be seen in the future. I did a lot of writing - most of it to be published in July -, helped a bit with the postproduction coordination of a compilation CD - to be released in July -, started serious research concerning my studio renewal - presumably to be done in August -, and things like this. Sometime in the beginning of June this homepage has recieved its 2000th visit (it's online in its current form with a visitors' counter since February), "Google" hits for my projects went up, and I finally updated my entry in the Guitar Nine Home Studio Registry: Those of you who are interested in the technical aspects of my music production can find more information there (the link can be found on my link page). And I finally recieved my first bad reviews. But I'm lucky as these reviews, all of them by  o n e  e-zine, are in such a stark contrast to all other reviews that you might wonder whether it's really my music that is so bad...

July

I'm very proud to be featured on a CD compilation for the first time. Renaud Rigard of the French e-zine Zoopa Loop has started his new label "Tripsounds" with the fiirst issue of series of CDs called "Free and Freaky". Merih Gürlek, the sound engineer of my CDs has done the track editing and the mastering of the compilation. The Tripsound label has started something like a counter-offensive against the segmentation and seggregation of the contemporary musical underground and those who release grey area music. Tripsound's "main goal is to release innovative music crossing over the borders of psychedelia, space rock, enchanting pop, ambient, groovy electronica, experimental delirium, drones, improvised music and avant garde stuff", as they say on their website. So it's good to be in this kind of home, and the "family members" on this compilation besides me are Census of Hallucinations, UK, (featuring Tim Jones, X-Punishment of Luxury), Judge Trev, UK, All A Stagger, UK, (one of the many musical projects of the drummer Clive Richards), Damo Suzuki's Network, Japan, Germany, (an ever changing collective of "sound carrieres" centered around Ex-Can member Damo Suzuki), Vine Sweetland and the Forefathers of the New Millenium, USA, Litmus, UK, and the Space, Acid, Punk Rock legends ST 37, USA. The CD is available from the Tripsound website for EUR/USD 10.00 postage included as well as from the order page of this site (the latter is recommended for German purchasers only).

There's a new appointment for reviews and articles for the Chain D.L.K. e-zine based in Brooklyn, New York, and in Italy. Have a look at their site (the link is to be found on my link site), and feel free to submit CDs for reviews directly to me (they have couple of categories there, and I think that I'll mostly qualify for the experimental, electronic and avant-guarde section). You find my postal address at the bottom of my journalism site.

By the end of July there were four new articles published by "Aural Innovations" and "Modern Dance": For "Aural Innovations" it's an inteview with Joachim Schäfer, co-founder of the German Seventies Prog Rock band Kin Ping Meh, a complimentary "funny" article about a series of emails with a young lady from the US concerning Kin Ping Meh's lyrics, and an obituary on Volker Kriegel, the German "Father of Jazz Rock" who had died on June, 15th. For "Modern Dance" it's the first issue of my column "Our Man In Germany", giving a brief overview of the contemporary German music scene and reviews on recent and previous albums of Uncle Ho, Miles, Holger Czukay, Brainticket, Mani Neumeier, Lover 303, Tom Riepl, Mano Rena and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. You find the links to all these articles on the journalism site of this website.

And there also were new reviews of my CDs at "Modern Dance". As usually, you find the link at the reviews site of this website...

And, last but not least, I did a compilation of tunes from my previous three albums - rather not a "Best of" but some sort of promo and reference compilation mainly for journalists and directors of independent film, theater, dance or exhibiton projects, label owners and mail order distributors. If you qualify for it feel free to ask for your free copy of "Selections" that contains three tracks of each of my albums that will give you a representative overview of my music.

August

Aural Innovations have started a new radio show called "The Electronic Cottage", named after a mag on electronic music published by Hal McGee in the late Eighties and early Nineties. I'm more than just a bit proud that the opening tune of this show is "Adjust Your Clock" from my album "Megalopolis". You find the link to this show at my music samples site. Head over to this show (if you have the new Real Player on your computer you can start to listen right away with almost no loading time even if you're browsing the web with the help of an ordinary telephone wire) - and you're rewarded with a program that gives you a representative overview of the contemporary international independent electronic scene, featuring some of the finest electronic artists from the US, Germany, England, Russia, France, Australia...

Renaud Rigart of the French e-zine "Zoopa Loop" once again published one of his incredible reviews of my music, this time he's dealing with "Toy Island". I always feel that I'm getting a bit of red in my face when reading one of his reviews - so, please, go to the "Zoopa Loop" reviews section and read everything about this fine new artist that is me ;-)) (you find the link on the reviews site of this website as well).

Syngate, a German e-zine on synth based music in English, have uploaded a bit of information concerning my music. At this moment their homesite comes with the impressive headline "The Evolution of Frank Gingeleit" and using the trilogy concept (in fact: to regard my CDs as parts of a trilogy came to my mind when I had finished "Toy Island") for nice descriptions: "Part I: Industrial Vanguard" for "Nightmares & Escapades", "Part II: Industrial Metropolis" for "Megalopolis" and "Part III: Industrial Dance" for "Toy Island". As usual, you find the links to the articles on my reviews site and the link to the zine on my link site.

Aural Innovations, the ezine where most of my articles are published, has changed its format and schedule now coming with regular updates every couple of days. I contributed a review of the Kraftwerk CD "Tour de France Soundtracks" to the first series of articles in the new format. The link can be found on the journalism site.

September

Early September saw me in Munich, Germany where we payed a visit to Peter Frohmader and his wife Antje. I took the opportunity for an interview with Peter to be published in a couple of weeks.

Now becoming some kind of Aural Innovations' "Man in Germany" as well, I contributed a review of the new Kraan CD "Through". The link, of course, can be found on the journalism site.

And I recieved a triple review by the Brookyn, NY based ezine Chain D.L.K. You find the link on the reviews site.

A little later this month links to more write ups for "Aural Innovations" could be found on my journalism site: A report about a new local underground festival in Mannheim, Germany (Sulphur Sonic Festival in late August) and reviews of CDs of one band and one solo artist who played there (Schwefel, Horacz Bluminth).

October

I was *very* pleased to see that "Alchemical Radio" has uploaded a tune from "Toy Island" to their show # 47. "Alchemical Radio" is run by Terri B and the Reverend Rabbit of the British Stone Premonitions label. As the contemporary musical underground is rather a "small world", "Alchemical Radio" is hosted by "Aural Innovations", and the Reverend Rabbit is a co-columnist for the web edition of "Modern Dance" ("Thoughts For The Day")... You find the link to the "Alchemical Radio" shows at my music samples site and the link to the Stone Premonitions label website at my links site.

I finished the recording sessions for a new CD called "Lost In The Deep Blue" that is planned to be released by mid November. This time it's (mostly) ROCK - believe me! Though it's again produced by electronic means I was ambitious that it does *not* sound "electronic". Most tunes sound "band performed" with a synth player in their line up every now and then, but you also hear me soloing on guitar on some tumes... Check out this site every now and then for more information.

Halloween - October 31 - surprised me with an appearance at the Radio Six International Halloween Party. Radio Six International is an internet radio station based in Glasgow, Scotland and this is their original schedule/announcement for that night: "2300 The Hallowe'en Show - a haunting concoction of music and poetry for a spooky evening with Peter Lewis, The Electric Prunes, Superczar, Frank Gingeleit, Dave Dill, Andrzej Rejman, The Mojo Gurus, Paul Rose, The Rabbit's Hat, Norman Lamont, HarpSong, Dale Fansler, Dorothy Currie, Coven 13, and Andrew Rosz. Poems by Anonymous, Stan, Nathalia Crane, James Ruffini and Michele Pratt. Compiled and Narrated by Tony Currie."

November

November started quite busy. My new CD "Lost In The Deep Blue" is ready and a first pile of copies is on its way to reviewers. The official date of release will be November 24th. More album info will be online soon.

I will be featured on the second edtion of the "Free And Freaky" series released by the French Tripsound label. This volume will include music by Frank Gingeleit, Mike Polich, Packi, Robot Vs Rabbit, El Scientisto, Darph/nadeR, Depressive Art and Puzleboy, as the label announced.

If you happen to live in the Vigo, Spain area you might have witnessed my very first appearance in a radio show broadcasted on air. The name of the program is "A Última Fronteira" ("The Last Fronteer"). It's a weekly show dedicated to electronic and independent music operated by Manuel Lemos Muradás and friends, and it's hosted by "Radio Onda Nada", an independent community radio station on 103.2 FM - just to let you know if you happen to live in the Vigo, Spain area...

The German ezine "Moderne Klangkunst" ("Modern Sound Art") uploaded a review about my debut "Nightmares & Escapades". The link to the review can be found on my reviews site. Allthoug the mag is in German only, the link to "Moderne Klangkunst" can be found in the English link list as well, as they also cover quite a few international releases.

Eric Wallak, well known in the US independent and improv scene, and I have appointed a collaboration. There is not yet a definite schedule and not even a real plan for it (don't mind, it's improvised), but I think that we will start a little later this year am I'm really looking forward this collaboration. Check out this site for further information every now and then.

On the eve of release of "Lost In The Deep Blue" (November 23) Aural Innovations put a review, an interview and a "Frank Gingeleit Special" 74 minutes radio show online (The Electronic Cottage Show #3) - a big (huge, immense) thank you to Jerry Kranitz at Aural Innovations!

... but: the people at the Spanish radio show A Última Fronteira were even a bit faster: Their broadcast on Saturday (November 22) opened with a tune from "Lost In The Deep Blue" - also a big thank you to Manuel and his collaborators!

As announced "Lost In The Deep Blue" was released on November 24... did you expect anything else?

The US online magazine Chain D.L.K. has uploaded a review about "Lost In The Deep Blue" - you find the link at the reviews site.

December

The second edition of my column "Our Man In Germany" for the online version of the British review mag "Modern Dance" is online now. This time it's about the latest releases by Kraan, Kraftwerk, Jelly Planet, the Mandra Gora Lightshow Society, Atmosfear, Peter Frohmader (all his releases from 2003), and Peter Seiler. You find the link at the journalism site.

Dave W. Hughes, the editor of "Modern Dance", has released his first full length CD "Portraits & Peelings" under his musical alias Cousin Silas and has asked me to review it for his mag. I was very pleased by this offer and you find the result in the web version and the printed mag. The link to the web version can be found at the journalism site.

From now on Cue Records offer all my CDs at their mailorder shop. They provide a worldwide mailorder service for contemporary German electronica of all genres from New Age to Experimental. You find the link to their shop on the order and on the link site.

I received new reviews for all my CDs at the online magazine "Sonic Curiosity" run by Matt Howarth in Philadelphia, PA. You find the link to Matt's weekly columns at my link site and the link to his reviews of my music at the reviews site.

Renaud Rigart has changed the operative structure of his Zoopa Loop project, now coming as an international artists promotion agency. This is the reason why I now happen to have a new international representation in France. Currently, Renaud is busy sending out CDs for reviews and airplay... Thanks a lot, Renaud, and good luck!

My first single is about to be released and it will contain the tunes Ride On A Tiger and Love And Reality from my recent album Lost In The Deep Blue as A/B and the tune Don't Know Where To Go (I Don't Either) as a bonus track. There is no definite date of release - I think that it will be out sometime "between the years".
