The Nightmare
...ist eine Sammlung von extremen Schach-Aufgaben, die zu lösen auch für neueste Hard- und Software ein ganz besonderer «Alptraum» darstellen dürfte.
Denn diese dreissig Mittel- und Endspiel-Stellungen sind nicht einfach «bloss» schwierig, sondern sie legen den Finger je ganz gezielt in die quasi «strukturellen» Wunden der Schachprogrammierung...
Trotzdem sind die Positionen wohl nicht grundsätzlich unlösbar; für einen Programmierer dürfte es also recht aufschlussreich sein, wie lange seine Engine jeweils zu knabbern hat.
Anwendern, welche die Sammlung als Test-Suite verwenden möchten, empfehle ich bei sehr schneller Hardware eine Bedenkzeit von mindestens fünf, ansonsten mindestens zehn bis fünfzehn Minuten pro Stellung.
Die Kommentierungen wurden in besonders sorgfältiger häuslicher Analyse-Arbeit erstellt; gleichwohl können/wollen sie nicht erschöpfend sein, sondern verstehen sich nur als Skizzierungen.
