Gloria Estefan Rates Bilingual Bio

Although rumors persist that she will someday write her autobiography, what fans of Gloria Estefan can count on is a new mass market bilingual biography of the Cuban-American singer – similar to Pocket Books’ bestselling Selena! – to be published by Dutton Signet next fall.

“She is the biggest Latin crossover star, she has a huge English and Spanish audience,” said Dutton senior editor Danielle Perez, who made a mid-five-figure preemptive bid on the book, tentatively titled Gloria Estefan: Into the Life. Although Perez acknowledged that Selena! certainly had the additional advantage of being a tribute to the slain Tejano singer, she believes Estefan’s fans (more than 45 million have bought her albums) will be interested in updates to earlier biographies, which have not covered recent events such as Estefan’s witnessing of a motorboat fatality. The book will be written by Newsday reporter Anthony DeStefano, who is represented b agent Laura Dail.
