Special Memories of My Life

Zurück

Memories, light the corners of my mind, misty water-colored memories, of the way we were. Scattered pictures, of the smiles we left behind, smiles we gave to one another...

Who can remember the way we were?

The vice Mayor of Nanning City was making a warm and short speech to express thanks to foreign investors, on behalf of Nanningers------"Over one hundred years ago, developed countries like France, Germany, etc. were running while we were jogging. Now, we start running, you, our foreign friends, come from far away to help us run faster, for this sake, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you..."

Cheers! Our friendship will last forever! (right: director of the Administration Committee of Nanning New & High-Tech Industrial Development Zone)

Smile! To remember this occasion!

We meet each other again!

I (from left 3rd) interviewed a famous HongKong singer Mr. Tan Yonglin in Nanning in 1991, together with other reporters from different news media of Guangxi. I like to hear the songs sung by Mr. Tan very much when I was a child.

I worked as a special correspondent appointed by Guangxi Workers' Weekly in the First Golden Rooster & Hundreds of Flowers Movie Festival held in Guilin City in 1992.  Some of the mid-age Chinese movie stars who had been interviewed by me in the Festival were shown in above photo.

At the end of 2001, on behalf of Bagui Metropolitan Daily,  together with other reporters from Guangxi TV Station and Guangxi Broadcast TV Weekly, I interviewed the relatives of Mr. Liang Xigui, a martyr who lost his life in torrent while saving the life of a 12-year-old boy in July of 2001 in Liangjia Village of Xiangzhou County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Mr. Liang had saved at least 9 persons' lives when he was alive.

My foreign colleagues and I were invited by Mr. Ratt, Mr. Haldimann and Mr. Schauerter to have a dinner together in their apartments in Nanning in 1996. They were Chief Engineer from Switzerland, Commercial Manager from Thailand, Brewmaster from Germany and Production Manager and Brewmaster from Australia respectively in Nanning Wantai Brewery, Co., Ltd. (from left to right).

Mr. Sheller (middle), a German graduate student who practiced to be a brewmaster in Wantai Brewery.

My husband and I were invited to take part in the 1997 New Year's Eve celebration party held in Mr. Haldimann's apartment in Nanning.

Some of my Chinese and foreign colleagues in Nanning Wantai Brewery, Co., Ltd.  We went to Tianbao Reservoir Resort for a picnic during a weekend in 1996. Tianbao is located in the outskirt of Nanning.

From Dec. 7, 2002 to Dec. 11, 2002, I worked as the interpreter/translator of an American Professor, Nobel Prize Laureate in Physiology or Medicine 1976 ------ D. Carleton Gajdusek in Baise City and Nanning City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, P.R. China. Prof. D. Carleton Gajdusek had received the Letter of Appointment as a Visiting Professor of Youjiang Medical College for Nationalities. Above photo shows that Prof. D. Carleton Gajdusek was taking part in a symposium with the directors and section chiefs of Youjiang Medical College for Nationalities and one of its affiliated hospitals.

I worked in Guangxi Office of Handicap International(HI)---Belgium on "The Rehabilitation Project of PALs in Guangxi (PALs----persons affected by leprosy) during 1999---2000. In this period of time, besides working as an interpreter and project assistant, I had also translated some medical documents and bibliographies, including a graduation thesis (in English, over 20,000 words) written by Michael (3rd from left), a postgraduate student in Public Health Department at Helderberg College (Germany). Michael had carried out his postgraduate studies in concerned cities, counties and villages in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for 2 months on the subjects of "The history, the current situation and the trend of leprosy epidemic in Guangxi".

We did fieldwork in a leprosy village in Fusui county of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 1999 (I am the left 1st). Most of the time, our work comprised of offering material and spiritual support to the PALs (persons affected by leprosy-----a vulnerable group), incl. doing baseline healthy assessment for them; contacting local medical staff to treat the ulcers and to do amputation operations for them, and, supplying economic support for the treatments and operations; contacting relevant organizations to take care of the cataract problem of the PALs; supplying orthopedic and protective footwears, crutches and wheelchairs to the PALs, trying to know their aspirations and helping them to achieve their dreams, e.g., applying for Disabled People Certificate from local or regional branches of Chinese Disabled People Federation (CDPF) for PALs, etc.

On Sep 2-4, 2003, I was "borrowed" by MOFTEC GuangXi from NN Only-Time Rexim Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to work as the translator/interpreter of an Israeli Dairy Cattle Expert (above: right 2nd).

After visiting one of the 5 farms-----Shangsi Dairy Farm of Guangxi Huangshi Biotech and Dairy Co., Ltd., a meeting was held in the meeting room of the farm, focusing on the modification and improvement of the facilities and administration of the farm.

Mr. Lior Yaron is the project manager of Sino-Israel Demonstration Dairy Cattle Farm in Beijing. He was invited by MOFTEC Guangxi for helping Guangxi's dairy cattle experts to improve the yield of milk produced by dairy cattles.

A meeting between the GM (left 3rd) of a Taiwan Company and the vice governor (middle) Mr. Lei Yu of Gaungxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 1992.

The picturesque scenery in above photo is Nanhu Park (South Lake Park)  of Nanning.  The park is just opposite to the residential area that I live in.

Once I played a role as a matchmaker by chance. The couple sitting at the right of the table met each other for the first time by my introduction in 1992. The lady was my ex-colleague in Guangxi Workers' Weekly and the gentleman was the former General Manager of the Guangxi Office of Apolo Oral Liquids (its headquarter was in Guangdong province) which was one of the most popular health-care liquids in the early 1990s in China. Now the couple lives in harmony in Guangdong province.

Some of my ex-classmates in middle school (1978-1981) f Nanning No.6 Middle School and I (in pink shirt) gathered in Green Mountain Park (Qingxiu Shan Park) in 1994.

Some of my former classmates (1981-1984) and teachers gathered together in our mother school------ Nanning No.2 Middle School in 1998 for celebrating the anniversary of our school.

Two of my best classmates in high school had seen me off at Nanning Railway Station in Sep. 1984 for my study in Beijing after I received the Letter of Admission issued by the Geography Dept. of Beijing Normal University.

I play badminton with my friends on Saturdays in the Indoor Badminton Stadium of Nanning Sports Center.

A welcome dinner for our former high-school classmates who came back from Australia for a short stay in Nanning (Nov. 29, 2003).
