In vielen ihrer Filme trat Marilyn Monroe auch als Sängerin auf. Ihre bekanntesten Lieder sind Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend und I Wanna be Loved by You. Aber auch bei mehreren Auftritten, wie z. B. bei der Geburtstagsfeier von John F. Kennedy, zeigte sie, dass ihr Gesang durchaus vor Publikum bestehen konnte. Monroe nahm einige ihrer Lieder auch für Schallplatten auf, sie agierte aber nie als professionelle Sängerin. Bis auf den Soundtrack zu Manche mögen’s heiß und Aufnahmen für RCA Records wurden Monroes Songs erst nach ihrem Tod veröffentlicht.
