Proverbs should in former times in a very compact form serve also simple ("uneducated") humans, e.g. illiterate people, as a guide for a "correct" way of living and accomplishment of their lives. Wise sayings are settled on a higher level and should stimulate thinking, make concerned, leave an impression, cause (positive) modification, be helpful.
